Effective date: November 3, 2026 Operator: The ClimbCoach developer
This Privacy Policy explains how the iPhone app "ClimbCoach" (including beta versions distributed through TestFlight, the "App") and this website handle information.
1. Overview
The information you record in the App is stored on your iPhone. The App has no account registration or sign-in, and it has no feature that automatically sends your records to the developer or to any third party.
However, the developer may receive information that you choose to send, such as inquiries, TestFlight feedback, and files or images you share (see Sections 5 and 10).
2. Information stored on your device
Climbing records: session dates and times, gym and crag names, problem grades, attempts, sends, perceived intensity, wall type, circuits, strength training, projects, notes and reviews
Condition: your self-ratings of overall condition, sleep, motivation, sense of power and areas of concern
Photos: photos you choose or take are copied into the App
Videos: videos you attach to problems or projects are copied into the App
Settings: display preferences, whether notifications are on, and similar settings
The App does not use location, contacts or advertising identifiers, and it does not read any information from Apple Health (HealthKit). Condition data consists only of the self-ratings you enter in the App.
3. Camera, microphone and photos
Camera: used when you take a photo or video of a problem.
Microphone: used to record audio while you record a video.
Photos: when you choose a photo, the App receives only the images you select. To save a recorded video or a share image, the App asks for "add only" access to your photo library. It does not ask to read your entire library.
You can change these permissions at any time in the iPhone Settings app.
4. Screenshot reading
The App can read candidate problem names, grades and angles from MoonBoard, Kilter Board and similar screenshots. This uses Apple's text recognition (Vision) and runs on your iPhone. The App does not send your screenshots anywhere.
5. Data you export or share
These actions happen only when you start them. The App never does them automatically.
Backup (ZIP): puts all your records, photos and attached videos into one ZIP file and saves it where you choose, for example in the Files app.
Log export: turns your records into text, which you can send through the share sheet or save as a file.
Share image: saves a session image to your photo library, or sends it through the share sheet.
Video saving: saves videos you record in the App to your photo library.
Information you send through the share sheet (for example by email, messages or a cloud service) is handled under that service's own terms and privacy policy.
6. Backup files (ZIP)
Backup ZIP files created by the App are not encrypted and contain personal records such as photos and condition ratings. Take care where you store them and who you share them with, and delete backup files yourself when you no longer need them.
7. iPhone backups (iCloud, Mac or PC)
App data may be saved by your iPhone's standard backup features.
iCloud Backup: if you use iCloud Backup, it may include the App's data. You can exclude individual apps from iCloud Backup (Settings > your name > iCloud > Manage Storage > Backups; wording may differ between iOS versions).
Mac or PC backups: if you back up your iPhone to a Mac or PC, the backup may include the App's data.
These backups are managed by Apple or by your computer. The developer does not directly receive their contents.
8. Notifications, Lock Screen and widget
Notifications: the App schedules a notification on your iPhone when the rest timer ends. It does not use push notifications.
Live Activity and widget: these may show the rest timer and the gym name. They are updated on your iPhone and do not communicate externally.
9. Deleting your data
What you can delete in the App
You can delete sessions, problems, projects, circuits and strength training records individually.
You can delete crags that are not used by any session or project.
Deleting a session also deletes its problems, circuits and strength training records. That day's condition record, gyms and projects remain.
You can remove attached photos and videos from each record.
What you cannot delete in the App
Condition ratings can be reset to "not entered" item by item, but there is no feature to delete a day's condition record itself.
Gyms cannot be deleted individually.
Deleting the App
To delete all data stored within the App, delete the App from your iPhone.
The following are not deleted automatically when you delete the App; delete them yourself if needed:
images and videos saved to your photo library
exported files, such as backup ZIPs and text logs
data you sent through the share sheet
iPhone backups (iCloud, Mac or PC) made before you deleted the App may still contain the data.
10. Beta testing through TestFlight
Beta versions are distributed through Apple's TestFlight. Apple handles tester information and usage data to operate TestFlight. For details on Apple's handling, see Apple's "TestFlight & Privacy".
Through TestFlight, the developer may be able to see:
Invitation details: if you were invited by email, the email address and name used for the invitation. If you joined through a public link, your name and email address are generally not shown to the developer.
Device and usage: device model, iOS version, language, install date and version, number of sessions and number of crashes
Crash reports
Feedback: comments and screenshots you send through TestFlight, together with device details at that time (such as battery level, free storage and connection type). If you include your email address or other details in feedback, or if a screenshot shows your records, the developer will see that content.
The developer uses this information only to fix and improve the beta.
11. Third parties
The App has no feature that automatically sends or provides your records to third parties, and it does not include advertising, analytics or tracking tools (such as SDKs).
If you send information using the sharing features in Section 5, it goes to the recipient you choose.
Email addresses and messages you send are used only to reply to you and to fix and improve the App.
13. About this website

14. Changes
This Privacy Policy may be updated as the App or this website changes. Important changes will be announced on this page.
